Torah Portions Tsav
Leviticus 6:8 - 8:36
Jeremiah 7:21 - 8:3, 9:23-24
This year we will be going through the Torah portion cycle with short teachings under 30 minutes each. Included in this post are the Haftarah portion and the Echoes Through Scriptures from previous years.
In Tsav, we will further explore the sacrificial system.
Shalom! This is the twenty-fourth portion of the Haftarah cycle. This week we continue our discussion of the sacrificial system. The prophetic critique of the system wasn't because it was a failure, but because of the hardness of Israel's hearts as well as their falling into idolatry. This year we will be spending approximately one hour on each of the Haftarah portions and investigating them from their historical setting and their ancient Near Eastern context as well as making connections back to the Torah Portion. I pray that you will enjoy these teachings!
This year we will be going through the Torah portion cycle looking for themes which occur in each Torah portion that recurs throughout the rest of Scripture with a special focus on connecting them to the Apostolic Writings (New Testament).
In Tsav, we look at the instructions for how the priests receive compensation for their work; through the animal hide and animal meat. This becomes a principle for understanding the discussion of compensation for teachers, elders, and apostles in the Apostolic Writings.
